Life Sciences and Chemistry
Our Life Sciences and Chemistry teams are widely respected for the results they achieve in fields that are both highly technical and fast moving.
Our attorneys all have relevant scientific backgrounds, many to PhD level, and together we have the expertise to advise on all the key technologies, including the most high profile and cutting-edge.
Our attorneys have extensive experience in contentious proceedings, such as European Patent Office oppositions, as well as in providing infringement and freedom to operate opinions. We also carry out due diligence, prepare reports for public listings and provide specialist advice on patent term extension (or Supplementary Protection Certificates) for medicinal or agrochemical products
And we are constantly working to stay abreast of the latest changes in biotech law – for example, through our membership of the IP advisory group of the UK's BioIndustry Association, the law group of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the biotechnology committee of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys.
Within these sectors our teams have in-depth experience in a number of more specific areas including alloys, novel crystal forms, polymers, gene technology, in silico chemistry, molecular biology, regenerative medicine, coatings, catalysts, personal care products, diagnostic tests, immunology, drug delivery technology, recombinant proteins and stem cells.
Within all technology sectors, we work with individual inventors, universities, start-ups and spin-outs, UK companies, multi-national corporations and overseas law firms. To understand how we work with these different types of organisation, please follow this link to About you.
We also understand that some sectors stretch across traditional technical disciplines. Our cross-disciplinary teams allow us pool our expertise to meet this need – please click on the links below to find out more.
