Utilize his/her specialization in the areas of European Patents and Intellectual Property (IP) in order to provide advice and guidance to US clients conducting business in Europe. Consult on European rules and requirements relating to all aspects of patents and IP protection, including: reading descriptions and discussing details of inventions; undertaking searches to establish that inventions are novel; producing detailed legal descriptions of inventions; and submitting, defending and negotiating patent applications before European patent authorities. Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing clients by providing thoughtful and timely thought leadership on IP issues. Deliver training courses on various European IP matters to both existing and prospective clients. Stay apprised with developments in intellectual property law, and supervise and train junior staff, where appropriate. Attend and speak as a European Patent expert at relevant conferences to proliferate firm expertise in US market.
Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in European Patent/IP Law, Life Sciences, Engineering or related field and five (5) years of progressive post baccalaureate experience as European Patent Attorney/Patent Counsel/Patent Agent or in a related role.
European Patent Attorney examination certification. Experience with: drafting and prosecuting European Patent Applications before the European Patent Office (EPO); supervision and mentoring of inventors, including drafting and management of Invention Disclosures Records (IDRs); and management of international IP portfolios.
