The Opportunity 

Kilburn & Strode is a top European intellectual property firm, headquartered in London, with offices in the US, Germany, and the Netherlands. We are seeking a Marketing and Business Development Manager to work both at firm level and across our practice groups (Tech, Engineering, Life Sciences & Chemistry and Trade marks) to strategize, develop and implement plans and initiatives that drive growth for the firm. This role will help focus energies on practice group-specific client development and profile-raising work and continue to roll out BD activities that are connected to the wider firmwide plan. Helping manage an established and respected MBD team that delivers a gold-star service, both internally and externally, the role will also support the firm's industry groups, working with partners and associates from across the firm.
You will work closely with and report into the Director of Marketing and Business Development and manage a team of executives. The role is based in London, but supporting a team split between London, San Francisco and the Netherlands.

Role Details

  • Provide day-to-day BD support and advice to the fee earners in London, San Francisco, and the Netherlands
  • Drive BD strategy globally alongside the Director of Marketing & Business Development
Content, marketing communications and events
  • Manage the creation and execution of marketing, communications, and BD initiatives, including events, content marketing, social media, website, direct marketing, and more, including conceptualisation and production, packaging, and promotion.
  • Oversee active follow-ups for all initiatives, encouraging opportunity scoping and direct contact with fee earners and targets
  • Implement and enhance the existing content marketing strategy
  • Manage profile-raising initiatives, such as the legal directory submission process, ultimately responsible (with team assistance) for compilation, signoff, and submission
  • Manage calendar and oversee BD and marketing campaigns and initiatives to position the firm to win work, engaging fee earners when necessary to initiate, execute, or follow-up on their campaigns
Business development
  • Oversee the implementation of the strategy and help influence key individuals within the practices and to achieve agreed strategic goals
  • Provide leadership and best practice advice and act as an internal consultant, helping coach partners / attorneys on marketing and business development
  • Design, execute and regularly revise business development and client tactics.
  • Ensure ongoing engagement with high-value prospects through the development of personal and group level BD plans
  • Employ robust pipeline management skills across individual, practice, and firm levels.
  • Assist in the pitch process, getting involved in project management and inputting content
Team and process management
  • Line manage junior members in the team at executive level

Person specification

  • Must have relevant experience in business development and marketing gained within legal, IP or professional services
  • A track record of impeccable execution of the full marketing mix
  • Strong business development / sales experience
  • Previous management of staff strongly desired
  • Will have excellent interpersonal and influencing skills at all levels
  • Bright, creative able to translate market developments into potential client needs
  • Have experience developing, implementing and executing business development strategies that have been delivered significant results against strategic goals
  • Strong writer who has able to manage strategic pitch processes with tight deadlines
  • A positive attitude, good team player, and sense of humour.
