Adil graduated from the University of Manchester in 2020 with a first class Master’s (Hons) degree in Chemistry. His final year research project investigated the application of chiral phase-transfer catalysts to the Truce-Smiles rearrangement for the synthesis of enantiopure non-proteogenic amino acid derivatives, with potential uses in the design and synthesis of drug molecules. His studies provided him with experience in medicinal chemistry, organic chemistry and analytical chemistry. Adil was a mentor for several second year chemistry students and coordinated weekly teaching sessions to encourage greater student performance in exams and scientific writing projects.
In his penultimate year, Adil undertook an industrial placement as a medicinal chemist at a multinational pharmaceutical company within the research and development department, aiding in the design of novel organic compounds for uses in oncology and immunology.
