Cecilia Ruiz

Attorney

Cecilia is a European Patent Attorney. She practices in a wide area of biotechnology, in particular molecular biology, cell/tissue cultures, pharmaceuticals, nanoparticles and diagnostics. Cecilia also assists with the prosecution and management of a large patent portfolio for a multinational company specialising in animal foodstuffs.
 

At University, Cecilia studied Biochemistry with Forensic Science. In her research dissertation, she developed a reagent for the detection of residual proteins on re-useable surgical and dental equipment, forming part of an investigation into the decontamination of prions by the Department of Health, UK. An International patent application covering the reagent has been filed and is being prosecuted worldwide. Cecilia is a named inventor.
 

Cecilia’s experience includes drafting new applications, managing patent portfolios and prosecuting patent applications before the European Patent Office and the UK Intellectual Property Office, as well as in the US, China, Japan, Australia, Mexico, Brazil and Russia. Her clients include small biotech companies, universities and large pharmaceutical companies.
 

Besides English, Cecilia is a native Spanish speaker and has a working knowledge of French.
