Tim has considerable experience across a wide range of technologies in the chemical and mechanical engineering sectors, with particular expertise in the oil and gas field. This extends from the identification of prospects to the treatment of the extracted oil or gas and includes apparatus and methods for drilling, extraction, transportation, synthesis, distillation and post processing.
Away from the oil and gas field he works on technologies as diverse as fizzy drinks and dietary supplements to the production of metallurgical grade silicon, bulk chemicals and concrete.
He is involved in all aspects of patent work from invention capture and patent drafting and prosecution before both the UK and European Patent Offices to enforcement of patents in the UK Courts and elsewhere. He advises on portfolio management and the development of an IP portfolio for public listings.
Tim regularly advises clients on issues of infringement and validity and is experienced in contentious proceedings at the European Patent Office, UKIPO and UK Courts. He can often be found acting for his clients in opposition and appeal proceedings at the European Patent Office with a high degree of success. He also has considerable experience in the management of multi-jurisdictional litigation.
In addition to his work in the patents field, he is also experienced in the protection of designs in the UK and overseas, in particular before the European Community Designs Office and the UKIPO.
Tim has been recognised in The Legal 500 2018 for his work on a contentious mater before the UK Courts.
He was also recommended in the field of chemical engineering in Managing IP, 2018.
