New European Strategy for Plastics presents opportunities for Biome Bioplastics

On 16 January 2018, a first-ever European Strategy for Plastics was launched with the aim of revolutionising the design, use, production and recyclability of plastics in the European Union. Against a backdrop of over 300 million tonnes of worldwide plastic production annually, with some plastics taking around 400 years to break down, the planet is facing a significant and growing crisis of plastic pollution. The European Union has decided that the time to take action is now.

Biome Bioplastics is ahead of the game on this front and has developed technologies to help solve the growing crisis. Biome is a leading innovator, specialising in plastics derived from renewable sources, with a focus on biodegradability and compostability. Biome has developed fully biodegradable, compostable and recyclable coffee cups, lids and coffee pods. These are based on natural and renewable resources including plant starches and tree by-products, such as cellulose.

These products are just the tip of the iceberg. Biome’s many research projects are producing results and are poised to offer new innovative strategies to tackle plastic pollution. K&S has helped Biome to protect their innovations so that they can continue to provide solutions to the growing crisis over the years to come.
