Alex is a European patent attorney in our Life Sciences and Chemistry team. His practice spans all areas of chemistry, with a particular focus on the pharmaceutical sector.
Alex has experience working with a wide range of clients in the pharmaceutical chemistry field, from start-ups to large multinational companies. He regularly advises on complex filing and prosecution strategies in relation to applications covering commercial products, including approved medicines and clinical trial candidates. Alex also has experience in EPO oppositions and appeals, and providing support for national post-grant litigation, including cross-jurisdictional matters. He is also involved in advising clients on freedom-to-operate and with M&A acquisition due diligence.
Alex gained valuable in-house experience during a secondment at a multinational pharmaceutical company, where he coordinated patent prosecution and assisted with EPO oppositions.
Alex enjoys tackling complex legal and procedural issues and was recently recognised as providing the best answer in Paper D (legal questions and opinion) of the European Qualifying Examination 2025.
Alex entered the profession in 2022 and joined Kilburn & Strode in 2023. He holds a first-class MChem degree in Chemistry from Durham University, where he specialised in synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry. His final-year research project focused on developing chemical probes to study kinases in parasitic protozoa.
