Bethany is both a UK and European patent attorney, with experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the UK, Europe and worldwide for a broad range of clients, ranging from universities and start-ups to large multinational corporations. As part of her role before joining Kilburn & Strode, she contributed her invaluable knowledge to the tech transfer team during a secondment to a prestigious London university’s commercialisation office, where she was instrumental in assessing the commercial viability of research projects and new start-ups, as well as developing prosecution strategies in line with the company’s business goals.

Having gained experience in a variety of chemical fields, her particular focus is on pharmaceuticals and consumer products, where she combines her practical experience with her commercial savvy to bring value to her clients’ portfolios.

Before joining the patent profession and during her MChem degree in Chemistry at Durham University, Bethany explored her interest in materials chemistry through a research project focussed on the synthesis and characterisation of solid-state forms of pharmaceutical products. Wanting to develop a deeper understanding of synthetic chemistry with biological applications, Bethany undertook a PhD at Imperial College London developing contrast agents for dual-modal biomedical imaging, with particular emphasis on the functionalisation of nanoparticles and microbubbles and their use in ultrasound, MRI, PET and fluorescence imaging.
