Dan is a Trainee Patent Attorney in the Life Sciences & Chemistry group at Kilburn & Strode and is currently training to become a UK and European Patent Attorney.
He graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2021 with a first class BSc in Biology and went on to achieve a distinction at Master’s level in Plant and Microbial Biology research at Sheffield the following year. For his academic achievements, Dan received the several scholarships including the Robert Pulford Scholarship, the Sheffield Study Abroad Scholarship, and the National Farmers’ Union Centenary Award.
Dan’s studies, which included one year studying at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, have allowed him to develop strong technical knowledge in a number of areas across the life sciences including biotechnology, immunology, oncology, sustainable agriculture, gene editing, bioinformatics, recombinant protein production, molecular cloning, and genomics.
Dan has a particular interest in plant biotechnology, especially inventions relating to genetically modified plants, plant-based protein expression systems, and crop protection. As a Master’s student, Dan applied advanced histological techniques to characterise physiological changes in potato sprouts in response to the application of a promising new sprouting suppressant.
Since joining Kilburn & Strode in October 2022, Dan has showcased his technological interests beyond biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. Dan is an active member of our AI in Healthcare and Food & Drink groups, with recent articles discussing the applications of artificial intelligence to healthcare, and advances in plant-based food technology.
