Tom joined Kilburn & Strode in 2023 as a UK and European patent attorney specialising in patent matters in the chemical field, having previously trained at another leading firm of patent attorneys.  
 
Tom has a technical background in industrial and materials chemistry and works on a wide variety of chemical technologies, from chemical engineering to pharmaceuticals. His experience includes working on polymers, formulations, catalysts, 3D-printing, batteries, medical devices, and spectroscopy.
 
For clients ranging from start-ups to multinational companies, Tom enjoys providing commercial advice and developing comprehensive IP strategies to assist with their commercial objectives. Tom also has significant experience assisting his clients in contentious oppositions and appeals before the European Patent Office,.
 
Tom is a strong advocate for broadening access to the IP profession, and is part of the group that launched the diversity and inclusivity community named "IP Futures", for early career stage IP professionals. Tom is also involved with Careers in Ideas, an initiative that was created for anyone considering a career in IP.
 
Outside of work Tom enjoys rock climbing, attending gigs, and reading and talking about world news. Although Tom is a chemist by nature he also has an interest in quantum physics, cosmology, and all things to do with space (and in particular the James Webb Space Telescope).
