Schmidt Fellow, Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard
Victoria Popic is a Principal Investigator and Schmidt Fellow at the Broad Institute, where she leads a research lab focused on the development of deep learning approaches for the characterization and interpretation of the genome and the mechanisms that drive disease. Victoria received her Ph.D. in computer science from Stanford University and holds an M.Eng. degree in computer science and B.S. degrees in computer science and mathematics from MIT. During her doctoral work, Victoria developed computational methods for large-scale genome analysis to address open problems in pangenomics, metagenomics, and cancer phylogenetics, leveraging biological domain knowledge to build scalable, compressive, lightweight, and privacy-preserving approaches. She also spent several years in industry, working in distributed systems and security at Oracle, machine learning at Illumina, and CGRA compilers at the AI hardware startup SambaNova Systems.
