Andrea Coles

Andrea handles patent work principally in chemistry and pharmaceuticals. She is particularly experienced in drafting and prosecuting patent applications for protein kinase inhibitors, drug delivery formulations, polymorphic forms, cosmetics, polymer chemistry, agrochemistry, synthetic processes, medical equipment, microfluidic devices, and electrochemistry.
 

Besides her native English, Andrea is completely fluent in both German and French. She has considerable experience representing clients in Examination, contentious Opposition and Board of Appeal hearings at the European Patent Office. In addition to representing her clients before the EPO, Andrea has developed a significant practice in prosecuting patent applications in many other parts of the world, often drawing on her fluency in German and French.
 

Andrea is commercially minded and enjoys learning about her clients businesses in order to provide strategically focused advice. She has advised various companies in acquisition and other transactional matters, preparing patentability and clearance opinions with a commercial edge. 
 

Managing IP recognised Andrea as a rising star in the 2017 IP Stars Handbook.
