Since joining the profession in 2019, Bernadette has worked on a wide variety of technology, such as machine learning for protein synthesis, computer vision and communication networks, laser therapy devices and quantum computing. Bernadette has considerable experience in computer-implemented technology, especially for software inventions on the borderline of patentability at the European Patent Office (EPO). Bernadette also has significant experience assisting clients in oral proceedings before the EPO.
Having worked with a multinational technology company, Bernadette has had a close working relationship with in-house and US counsel to draft applications which are commercially advantageous in the US whilst also being strong in Europe. Bernadette also enjoys working with start-ups and is particularly proud of having helped a charity with their patent filing and strategy to attract more investment in their work helping the forcibly displaced.
Bernadette graduated from Imperial College London in 2019 with a first class Master’s degree in Physics. Bernadette also completed an Erasmus year abroad at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), taking bachelor and masters’ level physics courses in French and doing her Master’s thesis in the quantum nano-optics laboratory at EPFL.
Having an interest in languages, Bernadette speaks French and is currently learning Dutch. Outside of work, Bernadette also enjoys figure skating and DIY, having completed a course in lime plastering.
