Josh’s primary expertise is in the field of optics and photonics, including optical computing and fluorescence microscopy. Since joining the profession in 2023, he has also worked on a wide variety of other technical fields including aerospace, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, automated storage and retrieval systems, and computer hardware and software, including data transmission and encryption.
Currently in training to become a European and Chartered UK Patent Attorney, Josh works closely with his clients to draft and prosecute patent applications, and manage global patent portfolios to meet his clients’ commercial goals. He also has experience in FTO and due diligence work, including preparing IP risk assessment and competitor landscaping reports.
Josh graduated from the University of Birmingham with a first class Master’s degree in Physics. His Master’s project specialised in precision interferometry, in particular in designing and implementing an active control system for the reduction of low-frequency seismic noise. His work helped develop a table-top vibration suppression system at significantly lower cost than conventional systems.
Josh has a particular interest in rapidly developing fields with the potential to impact all aspects of everyday life, such as quantum computing and clean energy technologies.
In his free time Josh can be found playing hockey, having previously played in the England Hockey National Leagues with the University of Birmingham.
