Kate joined Kilburn & Strode in October 2018 as a Trainee Patent Attorney in the Life Sciences and Chemistry group and is currently training to become a European and UK patent attorney.

Kate graduated with a first class MChem degree in Chemistry from the University of St. Andrews, during which she developed a novel synthetic route for the synthesis of glucosinolates. Kate then went on to complete a PhD in Chemistry at Imperial College London, investigating the synthesis and functionalisation of small heterocycles as fragments in drug discovery. This involved developing methodology to synthesise oxetanes bearing a functional group as well as investigating ways to incorporate the heterocyclic motifs into larger compounds. During her PhD Kate also spent time working for a large pharmaceutical company in their Research and Development team.

Prior to joining Kilburn & Strode, Kate worked at the Royal Society where she managed a portfolio of high profile funding schemes which supported research across the natural sciences.
