Back profile

Nick is a patent expert in computer-enabled medical technologies and telecoms.  He specialises in patent strategy and risk management. Pragmatic and commercial, Nick is relied upon by his clients to help them achieve their business goals using patents.

Leveraging his first degree in electronics, his Philips-sponsored PhD in medical image analysis and his post-doctoral imaging research, Nick is highly skilled in the medical field and has particular expertise of imaging, the use of AI and the patenting of borderline technologies in Europe.

A telecoms and SEP expert, Nick has experience of working as a trusted advisor for many of the biggest telecoms players.  His SEP experience ranges from designing and delivering processes for obtaining SEPs, to the complex (and often counter-intuitive) process of drafting and prosecuting SEPs, and SEP opposition - including their successful defence in the midst of a notorious patent war.

Nick is an intellectual property educator having lectured for the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys, the Law Society, Queen Mary University of London, Bournemouth University, and Imperial College London. He is also active in the industry on intellectual property committees for CIPA, FICPI and IPO.
