Jess is a European and UK qualified patent attorney in the Life Sciences team at Kilburn & Strode. 
 
Jess specialises in the fields of T-cell engineering, RNA-based therapies, and antibodies. Jess also has significant experience advising clients in the fast-moving food tech industry. Despite moving on from her academic career, Jess maintains a special interest in therapies for neurodegenerative diseases, having previously worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in this field at the University of Edinburgh.
 
With a reputation for friendly and pragmatic advice, Jess enjoys providing tailored advice on IP strategy, be it for start-ups looking for guidance across the spectrum of IP, or for multinational pharmaceutical clients coordinating complex patent filing strategies. Jess also has a strong practice in EPO oppositions, having acted for a variety of clients in the diagnostics, biologics, and manufacturing fields.
 
Jess is also keenly interested in how biotechnology can be used to address climate change, and the innovative solutions that the Life Sciences industry can offer to improve sustainability and lessen our reliance on fossil fuels.
 
Jess holds a PhD in Neuroscience and has authored numerous academic papers, with her research highlighting the contribution of oxidative stress and glial cell activation to neurodegeneration in vascular dementia.
