As an Associate in the Life Sciences and Chemistry group, Jess brings deep technical expertise and commercially-minded strategic thinking to complex IP challenges in the life sciences sector.

Jess specialises in RNA technologies, including RNA vaccines, siRNAs, ASOs, and RNA delivery platforms, as well as T-cell engineering and related therapies, antibody technologies, infectious diseases, and microbiology.  Jess thoroughly enjoys oral advocacy and has built a strong reputation in EPO opposition and appeal proceedings, representing clients across diagnostics, biologics, and pharmaceutical manufacturing sectors.  Before transitioning to patent law, Jess worked as a post-doctoral research fellow in the field of neuroscience, where she developed the technical rigour and analytical precision that now distinguish her opposition practice.

Jess’ clients include some of the largest biotech companies in Europe and the US.  She regularly helps clients navigate clinical trial disclosures, and coordinates filing and prosecution strategies that ensure applications are positioned for success across multiple jurisdictions.  Beyond her work with large biotechs, Jess has supported multiple start-up clients through early funding rounds, preparing diligence for investors, providing freedom-to-operate opinions, and developing IP strategies that align with companies’ value propositions and are key to achieving commercial goals.  Having been seconded to a multinational pharmaceutical company in 2021, and a biotech start-up in 2024, Jess has a unique appreciation of the demands of the industry and how best to support business at all stages through tailored IP counsel.

With a reputation for friendly and pragmatic advice, Jess builds lasting relationships with clients by taking the time to understand their business, technology, and commercial objectives. Her collaborative approach and technical depth make her a valuable partner for clients whose business success depends on IP.

When Jess isn’t working on client matters, she can be found tutoring students in the IP profession, jogging with the firm’s running club, or designing and sewing clothes for her daughter.
