Our Life Sciences & Chemistry group welcomes Susan Hancock! She joins as partner and brings a sharp commercial eye for her clients and a wealth of experience in contentious proceedings. Her hire further strengthens the breadth and depth of our experience and the exceptional service that we provide to address clients’ most business-critical and strategic needs.
As a UK and European qualified patent attorney, Susan’s practice focuses on obtaining patent protection for commercially valuable products and platform technologies, specialising in cell, gene and antibody therapies, genome editing, synthetic biology, and nucleic acid amplification, manipulation and sequencing technologies. Much of Susan’s time is spent on contentious matters, working with clients to attack and defend patents in opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office, as well as providing support in UK litigation proceedings. Susan has particular experience advising on supplementary protection certificates (SPCs) and has handled appeals against SPC refusals across Europe. She also frequently provides validity and freedom-to-operate opinions.
She brings a strong research background to her practice, stemming from doctoral and postdoctoral research, and has technical experience in biotechnology, molecular biology and organic chemistry.
It's fantastic to have Susan on board. Her skills and experience will ensure we're even better at helping our clients align their IP strategy with their commercial goals, something we're being asked for more and more. She will no doubt strengthen our already impressive team. I’m really looking forward to the impact we're going to make.
These are exciting times for Kilburn & Strode!
